Trade agreement with the United States, what the chief advisor said

Principal Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, "The United States has concluded an important bilateral trade and customs agreement with Bangladesh. This agreement is not just a commercial benefit; it will serve as a strategic foundation for strengthening Bangladesh's economy, employment, industrialization, and international diplomatic position in the long term."

He made these remarks in his farewell address to the nation on Monday (February 16).

Highlighting the trade agreement with the United States, Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, 'As a result of this agreement, the reciprocal tariff applicable to Bangladesh in the US market has been reduced from 37 percent to 19 percent.'

He said, "A special aspect of this agreement is the zero reciprocal tariff benefits for apparel products made using cotton and synthetic fibers produced in the United States. This is a huge benefit. Through this, Bangladeshi garments will enter the United States at lower prices due to tariff benefits in the US market. The use of US cotton will make our supply chain more diverse and stable. This will allow the Bangladeshi garment industry to move towards higher-value and higher-quality products."

The Chief Advisor said, "The Economic Partnership Agreement signed with Japan is a historic and strategic step towards making Bangladesh's economic future sustainable, diversified and technology-based. One important benefit of this partnership is the diversification of production and exports."

He said, "As a result of cooperation with Japan, Bangladesh will be able to gradually engage in automobile parts, electronics, railway equipment, green technology and high-value industrial products. This will reduce our risks and strengthen Bangladesh's position in the global market."

He also said, 'The industrialized countries of the world will invest in our country. Just to take advantage of duty-free exports to Japan.'
